This place was incredible from many aspects, surfing and otherwise. We stayed at a private home, which was run like a hostel (private rooms and shared common and meal areas), and the hospitality was extraordinary. Our host, Eddie Salazar, made sure we were on epic surf numerous times a day, as well as coordinated all of our other activities, including hiking, scuba diving, snorkeling as well as night life. All of our meals were included, and consisted mainly of seafood (lots of ceviche - wahoo, lobster, shrimp, you name it) and locally grown vegetables. If you look at the photos labeled “Carola-seen from the house” then you are looking at our view from our table at every meal. Breathtaking.
During every surf session you would encounter some sort of wildlife (sea turtles, sea lions, etc), which would pop up and look at you then go about their business. Sea lions were EVERYWHERE, both in the water (sometimes taking a turn in the surf lineup) and on land.
As you can tell from the pix, most of the surf was well overhead, but us two “seasoned Surfside surfers” (aka old guys) were able to have lots of fun with it. This trip was so incredible, I could go on to write a book about it, but I won’t do that (at least not here and now), but I hope these pix can give you and others some idea of the experience and allow you to share the stoke we had (cuz there was plenty). Enjoy. Pray for surf.
